From the release: Blinkink director Robert Strange invites new listeners to open their ears to BBC 6 Music’s breakfast show offering. Robert takes the viewer on a psychedelic journey from bed to breakfast, passing through eclectic, stylized visions of each stage of their morning routine.
Using a colorful blend of 2D animation, he matches the illustrative styles befitting each track played throughout the film. From New Order to Little Simz, David Bowie to Wet Leg, the audience is transported through the show’s eclectic offering.
The campaign was created with BBC Creative, a rallying cry to open-minded audiences looking to step out of the ordinary. It’s about embracing different genres of music that have recently been homogenized by algorithms and echo chambers.
“This is what Robert had to say about the project: “It was so cool to work with the BBC again. I would listen to BBC 6 every day when I first moved to the UK and I’ve never heard anything like it anywhere else in the world.
“It was so sick playing with all these different styles and seeing the animation come together for each section; they all fit together SO nicely but are SO different. We searched far and wide and found the absolute perfect designers for each song/section.
The film has an amazing soundtrack. Directing music videos is my first love and getting to work on something that features New Order, Little Simz, David Bowie, and Wet Leg was like making multiple music videos for multiple different songs in one go.”
