Vietnamese gaming company Iron Sail ups its brand game with this dark and sweeping CG film crafted by the design and animation team at Revenant in Glasgow under the guidance of CD and founder Kevin McCrae.
Kevin McCrae: “Iron Sail houses a lot of different games, each with their own individual aesthetic. Our aim was to nest them under one sophisticated style that would unify the Iron Sail umbrella, appealing to their user market and paving the way for future campaigns.
“We were lucky to be given the freedom to create an original concept and deliver it through to final delivery. This included everything from script to grade.
“A few of the big challenges were creating a turbulent river in Houdini that our cyborg protagonist’s hand interacts with, which was solved through many iterations. Also, we wanted the movement of the vehicles and creatures to feel real, but in a synthetic and stylized way without feeling too abstract or alien.
“We used Cinema 4D and Octane for the first section of the trailer, before shifting to Redshift for the second (when the spaceship ascends out of the planet). The characters were designed and built in ZBrush, using Substance, rigged and then animated in Maya before being transferred back to C4D as alembics for compositing in Nuke.”
