Take a peek behind the scenes as Blinkink directing duo Stevie Gee & Essy May whip together 2D animation, stop-motion, CG, puppets, and VFX into a genre-skipping 60-second treat for Amazon Music thru Droga5 London.
From the team at Blinkink: “The brief was to surprise and delight the viewer by taking them on an incredible journey through Amazon Music’s eclectic musical offering.
Watch the making-of video:
“Kicking off with claymation, Stevie & Essy experimented with multiple character designs, sketching various iterations to accompany the thumping sounds of Denzel Curry.
“In the carnival scene, the street structure was created in 3D via Unreal Engine. The team took inspiration from various Latin American towns to give it an authentic feel.
“The team blended sophisticated 2D characters and 3D environments with complex camera movement to enhance the richness of this scene.
“The family puppets were designed like ventriloquist dolls, sculpted in clay, then molded and cast in silicon before being airbrushed. The food puppets were made of foam latex, airbrushed and puppeteered by fellow directors Jonny & Will.
“The characters in the rich and vivid anime world were created in CG, adding fluidity and dynamism to this musical journey.”
