A bitter-sweet tale of leaving and family, this animated short from five 2021 Gobelins animation grads was inspired by the work of Japanese artists, including manga master Matsumoto Taiyó, illustrator Taniucho Rokuró, and filmmaker Yuasa Masaaki.
Director/animators Tamerlan Bekmurzayev, Antoine Carre, Rodrigo Goulao de Sousa, Alexandra Petit, Martin Robic: “We came together as a group because we shared the same references and sensibilities. We wrote the whole story together, the five of us.
“We had a few leading ideas that we all agreed on and started to build off each other’s ideas from there.
“The same happened with the concepts, artistic direction, and storyboarding: we all drew concepts, put forward visuals, feeding off each other, deciding everything together to create a coherent visual universe that is different than the personal works of each member of the group but inherently unique to this film.
“In the end, we all had a say and a hand in all aspects of the film.”
