NYC studio Bigstar teams with writer/director Robe Imbriano (ABC’s Soul of a Nation) to address the history of white supremacy and how “passive racism perpetuated via white fatigue is the biggest challenge in the fight against racism today.”
The result is a forthright and emotional 3.5-minute motion design project that explains white fatigue occurs “when white people who disagree with the premise of racism feel overwhelmed and exhausted with discussing and fighting for the cause.”
Josh Norton, president/ECD at Bigstar: “It was clear that as a group, we would be failing ourselves if we didn’t do something to address the racial layer of this crisis that we were going through.
“Racism is intrinsically linked to American culture; it’s what we say, how we think, and what we do. If you’re thinking ‘I’m not racist’ or ‘I don’t see color’ or ‘I have black friends’ then you could be contributing to the problem. You’re not being liberal, you’re hiding and deflecting.
“In fact, it is white Americans’ responsibility to realize that forward progress requires their active participation toward ending generational oppression and stepping up to be allies and defenders in societal situations where white privilege matters.”
