Lil Dicky wants you to know the man behind his rapper renown, in other words, the real Dave Burd. Produced by FX, the show launches March 2nd on Hulu with a boost from this snappy music video-ish promo with animation and VFX from MPC.
MPC CD Michael Gregory: “The promo features both Dave and Lil Dicky as they battle it out to prove who is the real deal and also highlights how starkly different their lives are. As David Burd plays both characters, each scene had to be shot on different plates, which were then comped together seamlessly.
“For this kind of project, preparation is key, so we worked closely with the FX team ahead of the shoot to ensure we captured everything we needed on the day, including the multiple plates featuring Dave and then Dicky.
“Body doubles were used opposite each of the two characters throughout, and the choreography had to be meticulously planned, especially complex sequences such as the fight scene where objects and punches are thrown between them both.
“The key scene where Dave and Dicky morph into one person also required extensive planning. The plates were shot multiple times, with Dave pulling Lil Dicky into himself, and vice versa, as well as the final scene where their very different fashion styles are combined.”
