Inventive, witty, and wonderfully unpredictable, Reka Bucsi’s animated short “Solar Walk” is packed with enough ideas, styles, and loopy wit for a handful of films.
Bucsi’s graduation film, “Symphony no. 42,” produced during her studies at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, was short-listed for an Oscar in 2016.
Reka Bucsi (from an interview with Berlinale Shorts): [My ambition] was to make a movie, that just gets the viewer out of their skin for the time they are watching it.
“I wanted to create a careless journey through mind and space. I find it hard to focus on individual subject matters smaller than the universe itself. Creation and the question of motivation and ambition were my ambitions.
“I like that [short films] have an easy approach to the experimental form of storytelling. You can do pretty much anything that challenges classical narrative forms. I also enjoy that tiny details can play the lead role.”
