Let’s say you woke up this morning with a burning desire to learn all about modern neuroimaging techniques but didn’t know where you’d find the time. Lucky for you, this TED-Ed explainer, directed by LA motion designer Joash Berkeley, has you covered.

Joash Berkeley: “The project utilizes gradients and layered transparency to create a unique aesthetic that alludes to brain scans.

“A major creative barrier we had to overcome was that the entire team worked remotely, across four different timezones: California, New York, Copenhagen and Argentina; so sequencing when one person would finish a part and hand over the baton to someone in a different timezone afforded us to keep the ball rolling while using collaborative platforms like Slack, Dropbox, and Frame.io.”

“I created videos that had creative direction and feedback for each shot and animator during the process so they always had something to refer back to in a format that was as if they were in the same studio.”
